I have a 11 speed Alfine Di2 that is having weird shifting issues. When shifting the indicator will show a higher gear than the hub is actually in. i.e. shifting from 4 to 5 the indicator says 5 but the hub is clearly in a lower gear than 4. The battery may have been low, it is charging now. I called Shimano. "Robert" hung up on me the first time I started describing the problem. The second time I got as far as the bike the offending up was being used on. Happens to be a recumbent trike, at that point he told me he knew what the problem was. The hub would never work with a trike I was told. I then had to inform him the trike had over 12,000 miles without an issue at which point he suggested the only possible way to trouble shoot the system would be to purchase a replacement wheel and swap it out to see if it that would help. If that did not help he suggested then replacing the shifter to see if that would help.
Throwing new expensive parts we don't stock at a system does not seem an effective way to find a solution for this customer. I was also very disappointed in the response from Shimano.
Anybody out there have any similar problems with the Alfine hub have a solution?

Happy to report the customer had caused the problem trying to install his new custom painted fenders. He had loosened the lockring that holds the shifting motor in place while trying to remove and re-install the wheel. This allowed the red alignment marks to rotate. Burrs were formed on both the motor and hub respective notches so they would not seat correctly. A little work with a needle file and a dremel solved the engagement problem. It did take three people to re-install the wheel on the trike but I will place that squarely on the shoulders of the trike design and a mis-match on over lock nut dimensions.
Spaced the fender mounting bolts out from the dropout to allow clearance for the acorn nut so the axle could seat fully in the minimalist vertical dropout and changed the oil, now the customer is ready for another year of riding in the Rockies.
Thank you for those who sent me possible solutions.
